Happy Friday everyone! Allison from aStellina checking in this week with chapter three of my 25 chapter series, Unique Wedding Reception Ideas! Last week I discussed incorporating a First Dance Confetti Drop at your wedding. This week on unique reception ideas, I’m going to discuss how to incorporate social media into your wedding with a hashtag. As you know, social media is huge nowadays! As someone who is a social media consultant and expert, I am a huge supporter of social media. In the present day, people are constantly uploading pictures onto their social media networks to quickly share them with their friends and family.
A custom hashtag is great for couples who are into social media and are social media / tech savvy. Even if you’re not that into social media, you can still incorporate this into your wedding as you won’t be the one having to upload anything! Everyone else will! Connecting your wedding through social media with a custom hashtag allows everyone to share your big day with you, without even being there. For example, this is a great way for the guests who are unfortunately unable to make it to your wedding to still be apart of the action. They will be able to connect with you from miles away!
If you and your future husband want to incorporate this social media idea, here are just a few steps that you should take in order to make your custom hashtag effective.
1. Notify everyone in the very beginning. Make sure that all of your guests know about the hashtag of your wedding.
2. Come up with a clever hashtag. Coming up with something catchy and unique will cause everyone to remember it and hopefully, everyone will use it when they are taking photos and updating their statuses.
3. Keep it simple. While you want to be clever, also remember to choose a hashtag that is simple. If your name is Julia and your fiancé’s name is Tom, and you guys call getting married “tying the knot”, pick a hashtag like “#JTtyingtheknot” or “#JuliaTomWedding”.
4. Put the hashtag into action. Once you have the hashtag picked out, place them on your save the dates, your invitations, and have signs evenly distributed throughout the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception space. The signs should say something to the degree of “Share our special day with everyone! #JTtyingtheknot on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter”.
But wait, there’s more! Make sure to tell your professional photographer and videographer about your hashtag, so when they upload your finished pictures and video to social media, everything will continue to be shared!! So, get out there and start hashtagging!
Happy Hashtag Planning!
